Project Outline
The process of drawing and painting is very similar to that of design. Just as hierarchy, typography, imagery, negative space and colour are used to convey a message in a design - subtleties in line, colour, shading and composition are used in drawing and painting. Choosing what information to include in a drawing is just as important as what to leave out. Creating space for interpretation sparks a viewer's interest and draws them into the piece.

Gesture paintings and drawings are done quickly, usually between 5-10 minutes.
This technique forces the artist to make quick decisions about what information needs to be recorded in order to capture the essence of a subject. It frees up that creative place in the mind that can so often be stifled by overthinking.
I’m always surprised and inspired by how honest and organic my work looks when done using this technique.
The lessons I’ve learned by working in these mediums has enriched my ability to create designs that communicate a message efficiently, economically and beautifully.
