Project Outline
This 11in x 16in, pen & ink drawing was based on one of the "A-maze-ing Laughter" sculptures by Yue Minjun in Vancouver, B.C. This drawing was later used in a promotional design for the Fringe Festival in Vancouver, an annual comedy celebration.

A Closer Look
This drawing is based on one of the laughing statues located in English Bay, Vancouver, B.C. The shading technique depicts various textures and elements that are common to this area in the Pacific Northwest of North America.

This drawing was later used in a design for a Fringe Festival ad promoting the Vancouver comedy festival held in 2015. For this design, the main background features urban architecture coloured to remind viewers of the iconic Canadian plaid shirt, which is also an element often found in this area in keeping with the theme of the drawing.
